Hi, I am Greer Sargeant
Wherever you are, we'll start there.
About Greer
she/her
My path to becoming a therapist began in birth work. For over eight years, I worked as a birth and postpartum doula, supporting individuals and families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. That experience continues to inform my work as a therapist and my understanding of how life's transitions shape us.
Clients often describe me as warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. My approach is collaborative and curious. I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable showing up as yourself, without feeling like you need to have everything figured out. I'll ask questions, listen carefully, and work with you to understand what's bringing you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it.
As a queer, multiracial woman, I know that identity shapes how we move through the world and how the world responds to us. I strive to create an affirming space for people of all cultural backgrounds, abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations. I am a pre-licensed clinician working under the supervision of Aubrey Carpenter, PhD.
Greer’s Values
Connection
We can work on building more honest and satisfying ways of relating to yourself and to the people who matter to you.
Honesty
I will be honest about patterns that may be difficult to recognize. From there, I will provide the space for you to decide how to move forward.
Growth
Growth might mean changing a pattern, tolerating a difficult feeling, speaking more directly, setting a boundary, or understanding yourself in a new way.
Identity
I will make space for the parts of your identity that shape your experience, rather than treating them as background information.
Agency
You get to decide what we work on, what change looks like, and where you want to go, both in therapy and in your life.
Liberation
I will invite you to question the expectations, roles, and beliefs you have been handed about who you are supposed to be. Together, we can sort out what genuinely belongs to you and what you may be ready to hand back to others, with the goal of creating more choice and freedom in your life.
Therapeutic Approach
I am an emotionally focused therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families.
I pay close attention to the emotions surrounding trauma, relationships, and significant life experiences. This can help us get closer to the core of what is happening and move forward with greater clarity and understanding.
I use skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help people develop coping strategies for the challenges they face. For those who want it, I facilitate mindfulness at the closing or opening of sessions to support relaxation and greater awareness of what is happening in the body. My work is also informed by psychodynamic-relational theory; this helps us better understand how past experiences continue to shape how we view ourselves and relate to others.
